Atlas, Episode 5

Episode 5 is the fifth chapter of the Code Adam (WEBTOON) series by Atterozen. It was released on July 14th, 2019.

Synopsis

In another part of the lab, a group of T-2 children huddle beneath a desk in a darkened room, confused as to what is happening. They freeze at the sound of footsteps echoing from the hall outside before the door swings open and Lato enters. The kids dash from their hiding place in an attempt to escape. They only make it a short distance, however, before they discover their escape route blocked by Hinalea, the woman staring down at them with an unreadable expression.

Meanwhile, Annie and Maria's gunfight ensues. Just as Annie is about to shoot, Maria's gun is suddenly grabbed from behind. Whirling around, she's shocked to find Nine standing behind her. He explains that he had come looking for her when the situation started to look dangerous. Face pained, he asks Maria if she meant what she'd said about using him. Maria is taken aback before spluttering that she didn't know he had been listening. Annie cuts her off, instructing Nine to take Maria's gun. He does so, then he and Annie restrain Maria by handcuffing her to a bench. Nine questions why Annie is involving herself in breaking him out of the lab if she's an aide herself, but she brushes him aside and asks where Atlas is. As Nine tells her, the two leave the room and begin heading down the corridor. Neither of them notice Maria glaring after them, vowing that Annie would pay for this.

Shots ring out as Roman fires his gun at Atlas. Dodging, Atlas starts toward him, managing to get in close to Roman despite being shot in the shoulder and another bullet grazing his cheek. Startled, Roman drops Reyna as Atlas tackles him to the ground. Turning to Reyna, Atlas shouts for her to run. The girl complies as Roman takes advantage of Atlas's momentary distraction to kick him in the side of the head and raises the gun to shoot him point-blank. Atlas turns just in time to avoid the bullet. Pushing off of Roman, he leaps into a side passage, ducking around a corner as the lab aide follows him. When Roman tries to fire again and realizes that he's out of bullets, Atlas seizes the opportunity to attack him and try to take the gun. Roman manages to jump back and evade the blow. Retreating, he disappears around a corner.

Atlas follows him only to discover that the corridor is empty save for several glass holding tanks emitting a blue glow, the floor covered in water. Cautiously, he treads farther down the hall, scanning for any movement. A shot pierces the air and Atlas barely manages to dodge in time before two more bullets bury themselves in his chest and side. Atlas collapses as Roman steps out from behind a holding tank, saying that the bullets he uses were specifically designed to take down Horrors. He gloats that the amount of suppressant drugs in Atlas's body render his ability practically useless. Coughing, Atlas glares at him and simply says that he's not like other Horrors. A shard of ice suddenly impales Roman from behind before disappearing, the man falling to his knees. With his last breaths, Roman gives a wry chuckle, saying that he should have known that he'd been lied to about the Horrors having never been used in battle before, as Atlas "has obviously done this thousands of times before." Falling face-first to the ground, Roman goes still.

Exposing the wound on his side, Atlas tries to create a seal with his ability to staunch the bleeding, but finds that he's unable to do so. Looking up, he sees Sands and Iantis round the corner, both men freezing upon seeing Atlas. Alarmed, Iantis urgently tells his partner to call Hinalea. Drifting toward unconsciousness, Atlas closes his eyes and briefly wonders what those T-2s are doing there.
