— Deus, Episode 9 | ||
Episode 9 is the ninth chapter of the Code Adam (WEBTOON) series by Atterozen. It was released on August 11, 2019.
Synopsis
A flashback of the Originals' past begins, showing Sita as a child sitting in an examination room. The scientist with her, Hades, gives her an injection. Sita shouts when the needle pricks her skin, her ability causing her voice to amplify. Hades winces at the loud sound and scolds her, warning her that her voice could seriously injure someone if not controlled. Tearful and remorseful, Sita promises to be more careful.
Sighing, Hades fishes in the pocket of his lab coat and pulls out a lollipop. He offers it to the girl, gruffly saying that perhaps it will help keep her quiet. Sita takes the candy as Hades continues the procedure, muttering under his breath about being left to do the dirty work.
In another part of the facility, Orion, Vesta, and young Atlas watch other Originals complete various tests through an observation window. Little Deus stands inside the testing room before a metal cube placed on a table. The boy whimpers that he's afraid and doesn't want to use his ability. Behind him, Fyra scoffs at Deus' fear. He protests that something still might go wrong, worried that he'll hurt someone. Nora, the scientist with them in the testing room, encourages him, prompting Deus to activate his ability and move the cube a few inches across the table. Praising Deus, Nora then ushers both children out of the room, saying that none of them can be present for the next exam. Once the trio departs, the door opens to reveal young Nine, his eyes glowing as his ability activates.
The flashback ends. In the present, Nine awakens in a room with Atlas, who explains that the group of T-2s would like to meet with them. Nine grumbles about the T-2s still being suspicious, but gets up. At Atlas' continued prompting to start getting ready, Nine snaps for Maria to stop nagging him. Atlas is dumbfounded at the outburst and Nine blushes, awkwardly saying that he's not used to being out of the lab yet. When Atlas asks if something had happened between the two of them, Nine affirms but doesn't elaborate. Thinking back to Maria's conversation with Annie, he asks whether he is an idiot. Atlas hesitates, causing a peevish outburst from Nine.
Outside the fence surrounding the lab, a man with a black tank top and multiple piercings stands with his hands in his pockets, staring in at the enclosure. A group of lab guards surround him and hold him at gunpoint, shouting that he is trespassing in a restricted area and commanding him to raise his hands. The man doesn't comply. The guards give a final warning, then open fire. The man turns around, his eyes glowing, and the bullets freeze in mid-air before shooting in the opposite direction, killing the guards. Stepping around the fallen guards, the man remarks at their worthlessness, saying that "those two" are an insult to all Horrors for being contained in a place like this. A woman with two horn-like prongs in her white hair, her face obscured, steps out of an alley, calling the man Deus and stammering that they're going to get in trouble for going after them. Deus's mouth tightens and he roughly shoves her, snapping at her to be quiet. He moves past her into the alleyway, saying that he's been waiting for them to make a move, and that this time, he's going to prove that "he" is no longer the most powerful weapon.
